misdemeanors
|
Misdemeanors are any crimes which can
lead to incarceration for up to
one year. They are less serious than felonies; however, it is important
to take a misdemeanor charge very seriously. Employers are conducting
background checks more than ever on their employees and candidates for
employment. Even a misdemeanor will show up on your record when a
potential employer looks which can keep you from getting the job you
want or even pursuing the career of your choice. Additionally, there are different degrees (A, B & C) of
misdemeanors in Alabama which carry different ranges of punishment and
fines. If you are charged with a higher class of misdemeanor, it may
have greater consequences with lasting impact. Misdemeanors may also be
elevated to a felony, depending on the seriousness of the crime (such
as DUI or marijuana possession). They also can be used to compute more
time in the sentencing guidelines. It is important to aggressively
attack misdemeanor chares as soon as possible. There are several
favorable options available whether the charges originated in city
court or district court. If you are charged with a misdemeanor, whether in city court or
district court, you need smart and aggressive legal representation.
